Hello! Sign2Music is the first independent baby signing organisation in Northern Ireland. We offer classes, workshops, presentations, parties and nursery training to children and their parents and carers. We aim to promote the use of signing with children using regional NI British Sign Language (BSL) signs, in an enjoyable and fun way!!

Using a few simple gestures can make a big difference, empowering and meeting the needs of your baby.  Babies are born with a natural desire to communicate and instinctively use gestures, eg, raising arms to be held, waving goodbye and pointing, to tell you what they want. Signing with your baby harnesses this natural tendency to gesture. Developmentally children can use their hands long before they can speak and therefore will be physically able to use a sign from around 6 months, if consistently shown the sign alongside the word.  

Sounds simple, doesn't it! It is, and benefits are huge. Imagine your 6 - 12 month old child being able to tell you when they are hungry, tired, need changing. Imagine too they can participate in story telling and tell you about things that amuse and interest them. There is little doubt that early communication reduces mutual frustration, raises baby’s self-esteem and helps parent/carer and child bond in a delightful way. 

Signing continues to benefit children as they get older, helping them understand concepts such as colours, numbers and letters. It has also been shown to have massive benefits in early literacy skills.

I have experienced the benefits of signing first hand and cannot emphasise enough how beneficial it has been for our family!
