Sign2Music facilitates sessions in schools, playgroups and afterschools clubs.
Signing is becoming increasingly popular in schools throughout the UK. It supports communication and literacy skills and increases confidence in children. It can also support staff in behaviour management, reducing challenging behaviour.
Signing complements the Areas of Learning highlighted in the NI Foundation Stage Curriculum and introduces children to a second language that is actively used within Northern Ireland. It is multisensory and therefore fits with the learning style of most children. It is also hugely beneficial for children for whom English is an additional language and for children with difficulties communicating through spoken language.
We offer:
- 8-10 week Foundation Stage Programme for schools. A programme specifically for children at Foundation stage that supports the Areas of Learning in the NI curriculum. This programme was successfully piloted in Windmill Integrated PS through NICIE. The pilot programme was delivered by a Sign2Music teacher in partnership with a deaf colleague.
- Themed sessions focusing on specific curriculum linked topics.
- Sign and Sing sessions (fun sessions involving signing with puppets, songs, rhymes and activities).
- Sessions for afterschools clubs. A new programme will commence in Sept 2011 in Millisle Primary school as part of their extended schools programme.
- Sessions for assembly or other events like Christmas / Easter parties.
- Training for schools to deliver specific programmes / incorporate signing within their environment.
